The Client:
The New Zealand Seafood Industry Council is an
advocacy organisation for the industry, as well as co-ordinating the industry
training function. They are funded by a compulsory levy under the Commodity Levies Act. While the majority of the levy is invoiced monthly to Quota holders, around 12% is derived from fish landed and paid by Wholesalers
and Processors.
The Requirement:
The client wished to have an online system where Wholesalers and Processors could
enter the laned values for the fish and the system calculate out the levy. The system
then generate an invoice that they could pay on.
The Solution:
We modified a shopping cart using Macromedia Ultradev so that it would calculate
at three decimal spaces. In the backend end we also developed a simple system where
the app would generate a .csv file from the information entered so that the data
did not need to rekeyed into the levy tracking system that was maintained offline.
